I would contrast it with many of the other luxury 'English' (as Americans seem to call them - I'm English) blends containing Latakia, in that some of these have very little weight at all - you puff them in and out and there's nothing there but the dry, ashy, smokiness. The elements - Virginia, latakia and the other orientals - meld together perfectly to my taste.

If you dont get into delicacies and think they are a waste of money then this tobacco is probably not for you. Strong and stout, yet smooth and creamy. Latakia blends in flake form are a rarity, and welcome. Opening a tin will cause your dog to howl, your wife to leave you, and in the end it might likely kill you. It is a perfect English in terms of balance. What can I say that hasn't been said before? I can barely make out, on my tastebuds, the Virginias an Orientals. People at the outdoor cafe where I smoked probably have never seen anyone as into their pipe as I was for my first bowl of Penzance, or my second bowl 20 minutes later. At first, I was worried it was no longer vacuum sealed, but when I got home I opened it and it hissed, so it was all safe. Smoking boyz - light wait champ ii. Stars - I see stars!! However calling Penzance an Oriental blend is misleading, it is a Latakia forward English blend.
When this goes OOP, watch out, it will be gouged to heck, there will be silent auctions for the tiniest amount of it, there will be blends and competitions dedicated to mimicking it and trying to match it with what's available. It gives little smoke when it used to yield smoke like the Denver skyline. The other is Special Latakia Flake with which I find that it shares the Virginia flavor but while Special Latakia is indeed Oriental (Turkish) forward – this one in my mind is the true Oriental blend- Penzance is more about the Latakia. For what it is, it's excellent, but since I know there are many tobaccos out there I would rate a 4, the question arises would I rebuy this particular tobacco, assuming my tastes don't change much more. I find the room note extremely pleasant. Then I cut the label so to fit in the bag, slipped the now emptied boat out of the bag and sealed the bag shut. There is a good aftertaste that is left that dwindles into a kind of soapy aftertaste when some time has passed. My Mixture was also a stonger scent in the tin. I would normally not want to review a tobacco after only one bowl, but I do not know when I will get another chance to smoke this renowned flake.
Our enjoyment has been vilified. It seems to work well in all size pipes by crumbling coarser-to-finer as you fill the bowl. Bitch, you ain't slick, I can tell the disguise. After acquiring some Penzance, then came the wonderment of what I was about to experience. For me, both a little sweet and oddly salty, with a creamy texture. This is a great tobacco.
Are better than many, including legends 4 stars and benchmarks, as Presbyterian, Stonehaven, Squadron Leader, NightCap, Dunhill's Standard Medium, Altadis Similar 965, Dunhill's 965 etc... ||Medium||Very Mild||Mild to Medium||Very Strong|. This blends into the Virginias. Similar Blends: London mixture, 965/old dublin, black mallory. The tin aroma suggests fine tobacco, and the smoking of that tobacco confirms it. The tin aroma leaves a little to be desired and the presentation of the flakes although unique is a little off putting. A bit of age will reward your patience. But there is nothing else that looks like Penzance, crumbles like Penzance, smokes like Penzance or tastes like Penzance. Z. Tin: Light smoky Latakia smell. This is in my top ten, but I'd like a bit more sweetness. First off... what a foul concoction! Pipe Used: Radice Rubens Rhodesian. This medium English has a unique tin note - earthy and strangely sweet like rich moist garden soil. When we come out, we can't help but leave damage (Yeah, yeah, yeah).

The size of the slice is also good for my frequent choice of pipe with this tobacco, smaller pipes where I can use one slice and get a satisfying smoke with the tobacco rubbed down fairly fine. I opened the Ziplock bag that my sample came in and trembled with humility. Anyway, I have likely already said too much as there is a reason this is extremely hard to obtain. This is simply one of the tastiest tobbacos available.
Price in Bulk 8oz bag is quite reasonable. I now prefer Astley's #99 for an all-day, any day latakia (and ease of use cut), but I can't imagine being without a tin of Penzance stashed somewhere for those evenings when I want some quality time with myself! It is tough to keep lit thereby revealing its´ potential for tongue bite. I just finished a bowl of Penzance (dated February, 2012, purchased-and-jarred in August 2015).
