Humanoids from the Deep is the definition of a B-movie. There was a sense of a small town community in which everyone knew each other that made the eventual monster trouble have a sharper edge as old grudges and slights are brought to the surface in the tense moments. This message is for the ladies, on the off chance that anyone reading this actually meets that description. Tensions run high in the seaside community of Noyo when a controversial new cannery promises to revitalize the traditional fishing economy with new jobs, new industry, and a scientifically augmented salmon population. When the mauled bodies of males turn up including the disappearances of a number of young women, it is soon discovered that a humanoid race of fishmen are responsible. Some of the cues would even be recycled for later Corman movies such as SPACE RAIDERS (1983). You can definitely tell this film was actually shot on film whereas the 2010 blu-ray looked a bit too processed. Unforgettable creatures. A shame an additional scene showing Slattery making amends with his savior wasn't shot, or simply wasn't included in the final cut. It's exploitation C-grade cinema at it's very best, and the film represents one of Corman's finest efforts in the monster genre. That's the basis for a good monster picture, but the execution of it in this film just falls flat. Which, as a financier, was probably something he had every right to do, except he did it in a really dickish way by…. At the start of his career, Vic Morrow made an impression as a gang leader in the 1955 drama, THE BLACKBOARD JUNGLE.
Actually, I could probably find several reasons. Humanoids From the Deep is available to stream on Amazon Prime. Scenes with Blood: 19. He's probably most famous for his role on the long running western program, THE VIRGINIAN (1962-70). HUMANOIDS FROM THE DEEP (1980) aka MONSTER. It reminds me of his vivid, lush music for Star Trek 2 & 3. Hey, at least she didn t get raped by a fish that way... With so large a proportion of our cast thus eliminated, it is clearly time for Jim Hill and Dr. Drake to step up to the plate and take control of the situation. Rewind Moments are those special scenes in films that deserve to revisited over & over again due to their overwhelming impact. Now, this isn't the biggest leap in terms of picture quality over the 2010 Shout! Seagulls with One Leg: 1. If there was a killer or monster on the loose, there was always a horny couple bumping uglies at the most inopportune time. There's some goofy character actors doing their best to be sleazy and exploitative while being anchored by some real talent; that's a heady mix!
Topping off the disc we've yet another retro interview with Roger Corman, hosted by Leonard Maltin. NOTE: This review contains screenshot comparisons between the 2019 blu-ray release from Scream Factory and the 2010 blu-ray release from Shout! My guess is that this is due to the movie s completely straight-faced approach; it was clearly designed to work as an exploitation flick first and foremost, and there can be no question that it is a resounding success on that score-- at least if you measure an exploitation movie s success by its power to shock and offend. If you're a fan of monster and exploitation films than yes. The plot is good for a flick like this. 1980 was a pretty big year for horror. International customers can shop on and have orders shipped to any U. S. address or U. store. Or at any rate, they do if you re a moron. And years later, in continues to impress. The monsters are fun, and the nudity and gore are plentiful. No one is going to hit play on a movie called Humanoids from the Deep so they can get a lesson is socio-political issues regarding fishing rights from the early 1980s. Lots of jiggly boobs (it is exploitation, after all).
Where the film really lives up to its cult status is a wonderfully manic siege of the town's Salmon Fair. The culprits are a group of mutated fish-men, the result of unethical experiments from an evil corporation called Canco who have been fucking around with the salmon. Everything I knew about it screamed 'disaster' but my curiosity once again did me in. Let us know in the comments!
Studios||New World Pictures|. It's a ridiculous gore fest filled with nudity and all the other wonderful garbage terrible movies are made of. No one obviously expected this movie to be the next Citizen Kane or anything like that (the ending was even admitted to be a complete rip off of Alien). Luckily this taboo subject has become less common across media and viewed rightfully as the reprehensible act it is. That the human victims are disproportionately female is also only to be expected, because those brief glimpses we ve been catching since the very first scene (to say nothing of the movie s title) have been enough to tell us that Noyo s big problem is a gill-man infestation. Dialogue can be hard to hear from time to time while the effects and James Horner's fantastic score are heard loud and clear. The shock works, not because it's genuinely scary, but because the effect looks so real, it's actually a bit unnerving. The final film ended up being quite a different beast from what it was in the original script. You might expect that once I finally saw the film I was let down. Either way, this one wasn't going to win any awards. It turns into a gore-fest at the end. You may scoff, but if you ask me, it takes real talent to pack such a huge roster of time-honored cliches into so short a film in such a way that they not only seem properly placed, but also serve to keep the plot moving at a blitzkrieg pace. They drip, they screech, they kill, they rape! His films always had a low budget grindhouse charm to them, which was amusing in its own right.
Nudity and sex have been a staple of the horror genre from the 70s to the early 2000s. Though, she did continue to direct episodes of TV shows in the 80's including Renegades, Remington Steele, and Falcon Crest. This is, of course, where the nudity and gore really come to play. The fish monsters (or humanoids I guess) are weird offsprings from the Creature From the Black Lagoon but they have a large protruding brain and long gangly arms. Something stirs beneath the ocean's depths near the sleepy fishing village of Noyo. Oh, sure, blame the Mega Corporation for all your problems.
Almost immediately thereafter (in movie terms-- I think it s really supposed to happen later that night), another gill-man attacks a conjugating couple on the beach, tearing open their tent, killing the boy, and chasing his jiggling, nude girlfriend several hundred yards up the beach before catching and raping her as well. Other than the obvious issue of the murderous, horny fishman, the rest of the plot focuses on Noyo's dwindling salmon population and the tension that creates between the white fishermen and the local Native American population. The characters are also likable, something you really can't say for most characters in horror films these days. Extras aren't as impressive as previous BD Corman releases, but fans should be pleased with what Shout delivers. This first gill-man wades out onto the beach one afternoon to kill Mullet-Boy (whom we ve been seeing off and on for some time) and rape his bikini-clad girlfriend. Unfortunately for the rednecks and their ingenious logic, horny male teenagers are showing up dead and their partners missing.
The price is right on this one and I recommend it to any horror fan, really. Another scene has a woman in a truck attacked by one of the monsters while driving. He falls to the ground, his ribs exposed. I didn't think I was a bad person... On the other hand the women are pretty strong. I could give you a more technical breakdown of the plot, subplot, & themes, but do you really need any more than that?!
I guess people with hearing impairments, and our Spanish speaking friends, are out of luck. The second change is the film grain. The ultimate drive-in movie - bad acting, oodles of gratuitous nudity and violence often at the same time. I'm not kidding, this is the actual sypnosis.
