Smalltown romances are one of our favourites, add a grumpy hero whose actions speak louder than his words, intense chemistry with an adorable strong, and funny heroine as well as a bit of suspense and humour and well… we're in reading heaven. A fun, sweet, laugh-out-loud yet emotional story with fantastic characters, SO much heart, and a beautiful and passionate small town, grumpy/sunshine, slow burn romance. Knox is Knockemout's gorgeous-yet-grumpy introvert. There's an unexpected but fun twist when their promised one-night-stand actually becomes a fake romance, and keeping up the pretence of a relationship allows all sorts of touching, affection and continued sexy time as Knox and Naomi easily and naturally fall even deeper into each other's lives. Getting them to their happily ever after wasn't easy and there were times I wanted to yell at them both, but as every layer was peeled back and all of Knox's secrets were learned, it was totally worth it. "I'm not goin' anywhere. Unless you count his basset hound, Waylon. Now I have to talk the best part of all, the romance. Things We Never Got Over left me with nothing but good vibes and a massive smile. On her arrival in town she learns that her evil twin is the most reviled woman in town (which is a fair judgement), and after suffering the indignity of being confused for her Tina, she is horrified when her sister promptly steals her car, belongings and money, and leaves her with an 11 year old niece, Waylay, who she knew nothing about. I felt all the feels. It keeps the plot interesting and engaging, while also keeping from having an information dump at the beginning of the book. With a few grumpy slanging matches and tangible heated looks, we just knew this was going to turn into a fiery romance! Now she's a guardian to an eleven-year-old-going-on-thirty with no car, no money, and no plan. I loved how they would stand up to Knox. But around Naomi, he's mostly still those things but add overprotective. The emotions hit hard, but alongside that angst comes so many funny moments which keeps the story light. 'Was there someone out there who would find me to be enough? The way in which their story unfolded was compelling, what a journey and what a wonderful array of characters that made this so much more than just a slow burn reluctant love story. She checks herself into a motel to find that her sister has not only stolen her car, money and rifled through her possessions, but she has also left behind her 11-year-daughter, Waylay. Just when you think anyone can craft a romance, you read a bad one and realize "oh no they can't – this is so not good. " Of course, Knox was my favorite character, but I don't think anyone can blame me for that.
