People who enjoy this trope will be happy to hear that the blurb holds true and Ms. Pearson really does bring these characters 'intimately together. He and his family are amidst a power struggle and will not back down from ruling their kingdom inside a kingdom. Pearson's latest book is not one that you want to miss! Gunner had looked fishy to me throughout the entire book. I love you with every breath, with every thought that's inside me. Fake dating, no strings attached relationships, enemies to lovers, deciding between duty/family and love, spying, found family… honestly what trope doesn't this book have? He fiercely loves his family and Kazi. Immersive, extremely well-choreographed, a sometimes moving story of two people who flip between enemies to lovers, and back again. Clearly, this all changes. New ones have formed! Instead, the book focuses on the romance, having the characters passionately kiss and melt into each other every couple scenes, as if the fact that two people are in love puts all morality on hold.
This book relies more heavily on the romance than the plot, so that left me disappointed for most of the book. Kazi and Jase's relationship is deep and meaningful. Kazi's backstory and Jase's history were so intriguing and emotional. Secondly, this series already feels like it has much more of a distinct plot and direction than The Kiss of Deception had. As I typically mention, I don't need to have 'likeable' characters to enjoy a novel, but for this one the reader was obviously meant to favour these two. I was really looking forward to getting back into this world ever since the Remnant Chronicles became one of my most favorite series in the whole world. Throughout this alluring and fast-paced book, bits and pieces of Kazi's personal history are dropped. However, Pearson's plotting is solid, and the last section picks up steam, ending on a cryptic cliffhanger that begs the sequel to hurry. I'm sure I would have understood better if I read that first, so don't make my mistake. I think if you weren't a thief, we might be friends. And for the life of me, I can't understand why that is! I have nothing to say except to state the fact that this book is a freaking MASTERPIECE!!!!!!!
