Jamie and Charlotte keep talking around each other. The last of august ending explained images. I don't know if he's understood yet who the reveals are really for. They understand each other, almost too well, and that causes them to protect themselves by lashing out at one another instead of suffering through things that may be good. As this is a YA book, it is unsurprising that a bit of a love triangle is set up between August, Jamie, and Charlotte. Imagine this pattern lining the walls of an old library.
Even though I did read the first book, I regretted not rereading it before diving into this one, as there were moments where I was a bit lost nonetheless. So this whole novel was basically for nothing for them to arrest the Moriarty family- for nothing. So if you read my review of A Study in Charlotte you'll know that I adored that book. We learn that as the deputy sheriff was leading Joe through the town square, Joe escaped. Maybe it came from how we met, the two of us together in a foxhole. Lena is also a delight. There are breaks in the flow and the overall clarity is muddled, and that breaks several connections I might have with the story. The Last of August (Charlotte Holmes, #2) by Brittany Cavallaro. I just wish that the ending was a little clearer for me. Though I didn't like the second book as much as I enjoyed the first, it was still a strong entry into the series. I really enjoyed the first book in this series. When Charlotte gets to narrate a few chapters, we definitely get why she's feeling the way she does, and when she makes a particular choice to take the lead, I was cheering her on.
I think they're such an interesting duo, they're real different and yet two sides of the same coin. A vague recap lets readers know they did not have sex but had other sexual contact. I could see the toxicity of Jamie and Charlotte more clearly, but it was such good writing. If I wanted to be with him, it was because of that. When does august end. Another of my least favorite things in books is when the main characters can't just get over themselves and communicate. I also found myself very confused at the end of the book. This is hardly a spoiler, given the title of the book. He resents this, I think.
With my love triangle hatred out of the way, let's talk about the next thing that annoyed me to no end. One character is poisoned. Review: The Last of August by Brittany Cavallaro. Every argument in this book seemed to be for the express purpose of just hurting the other person and it wasn't fair to either of them. Leander is absolutely charming, a nice contrast to the prickly Charlotte and her distant parents.
I was actually a bit sad that none of this book took place at their boarding school. I wish I could see the spark everyone else does. He runs up to the crowd holding Joe and begins yelling that Joe should be killed immediately. The last of august ending explained season. They are on Christmas/winter break. Watson and Holmes contain multitudes, and those multitudes aren't all sunshine and rainbows. I made a mental note to dig up the rest of that story later. Like this thing between us was a Wonderland rabbit hole, that we could fall endlessly and never hit the bottom. I did get a little lost as the story went along though, and was quite confused by the end.
