"Hall of Saurian Entombment" is another one of Nile's ambient Egyptian styled passages, with some awesomely ominous chanting halfway through. The day I heard In Their Darkened Shrines changed the music world for me as I knew it and until this day I'm still a big fan of the band. This song owes more than a nod to CANDLEMASS' "The Well Of Souls". When this epic break finishes, by the way, the song heads back into a heavier, more intense passage... only further testament to the musical diversity on this album. Tony Laureano's drums take more beating than Riley Reid's asshole as he does gravity blast beats so heavy they tear apart the seismic face of the Underworld.
I like it that much. "Unas Slayer Of The Gods" is a 10-minute plus epic that opens with an acoustic riff that is identical to the main theme of the Candlemass song "Well of Souls", but then bursts forward with manic drum work from Tony Laureano, bludgeoning riffs, spooky background keyboards, and some lethal death metal grunts. Back home, the Sanders' television set was always tuned-in to The Discovery Channel — a station that, back in the 1980s, still broadcasted history and science documentaries, not reality shows about repo men and fishing boats. I've always had an interest in Egyptian myths and history, and I really like when bands go out of the typical mold in their genre and do something different. In Their Darkened Shrines, while having some common musical features among its tracks, never gets boring at any point, and leaves you gasping for air once you've finished listening to it. In Their Darkened Shrines Colored Vinyl, Gatefold, Limited Edition. What would a label do with their (probably) best-selling death metal band right after they leave to another label? Rolling Stones Stickers. The lyrics contribute to the epic, Egyptian-themed nature of the band, and sometimes feel as if they're telling a story (a quality I've always enjoyed and admired about Nile). The drum work by Tony Laureano makes tracks like "Churning the Maelstrom" and "I Whisper in the Ear of the Dead" standout. Tony Laureno's drums are excellent, there's lots of speedy blasting and some more technical stuff, I don't know very much about drums but I know his performance here is stellar. On movie nights, the family would screen tragic tales of deceased civilizations, like those depicted in Ben-Hur, The Ten Commandments, or Sodom & Gomorrah.
Producer, recording engineer, mixing. Nile - At The Gate Of Sethu-2 Album Cover Sticker. Suddenly there's more color to everything as opposed to the gray barrage of the album's first half. What Should Not Be Unearthed allowed Nile to return to form with a refreshing and catchy follow-up that demolished much of the ill-will aimed towards At The Gates Of Sethu. Nile - Legacy Of The Catacombs. All releases, except for In The Beginning of course, which already is a collection of pre-Amongst The Catacombs Of Nephren-Ka tracks. The main takeaway from the single is how atmospheric certain sections sound and how, with moderate success, Nile mixes brutality with background textures. Album: In Their Darkened Shrines-1. I love everything about this album. The artwork depicts a large statue of Ancient Egyptian god of fertility "Min" and most of the track titles are direct references to other themes related to mummification, the 'Book of the Dead', H. P. Lovecraft and more. However, this is a perfectly serviceable entry into Nile's musical canon and is, I think, better than their last album (which I loved at the time, but after exploring other albums rate a little lower these days) while not being up there with " ITDS" or " Annihilation of the Wicked".
And now, we're here to discuss their album Ithyphallic. The riff for Unas is clearly inspired by the Candlemass song "Gothic Stone/The Well of Souls" and even Sanders admits this. It may still sound quite chaotic upon initial listen, but given a few spins it becomes apparent that there is a means to the chaos, and that everything is tightly structured and played with great technical finesse. Thus Sayeth the Parasites of the Mind. Another noticeable trait on this album is the almost total reliance on mid-range growling, as opposed to the low-end depths achieved on previous records- still used here, just not as much. The disc offers most of my favourite tracks, so any newcomer is bound to like it. NILE is a technical death metal outfit from Greenville, South Carolina that's been around for about 25 years now and has gone through some major lineup changes since their inception. Select Currency: USD. This is Nile's third album and in my opinion their absolute best so far. This album is a primal serving of technical death metal from the Greenville, South Carolina trio. "Vile Nilotic Rites" is available HERE. I haven't listened to their work, like, properly, for a while now but I've always loved these guys. In that witching hour, on any old sticky night in 1993, hidden behind the politely pruned shrubbery of an unassuming Greenville suburb, Nile, no longer, was simply a river running down the African continent, but now, a byzantine death metal band — whose upcoming decades would be spent sowing the same CD every two to three years, yielding three or four masterful new songs, alongside an overflowing current of bland sameness.
One of my favorite death metal albums, In Their Darkened Shrines is a thick tech-wizardly display while being steeped in a gloomy aura. The guitars, especially the leads, aren't the most technical from a shredding stand point, but damn, those fast rhythms and change ups are really impressive, and the great guitar production really adds to the unique and haunting atmosphere that Nile can call their own. While it took me a few listens to really delve into it, What Should Not be Unearthed is a very good, very enjoyable Nile album. Nucleus - Solar Plexus Album Cover Sticker. Reviewer's Name: Bryan. After all, what I'm left with after each listening of In Their Darkened Shrines is CANDLEMASS' "The Well Of Souls". This long piece features a great mix of symphonic arrangements that should appeal to the progressive rock crowd, but make no mistake about it, there's also some truly monstrous and technical metal going on here as well. Please Log in to save it permanently. Essentially 'In Their Darkened Shrines' is the tale of a "rebellious Serpent Cult who are plotting to overthrow Pharonic rule" and it emerges as a grandiose piece of work. In Their Darkened Shrines is more like a trip to the forbidden tombs than a musical experience, one part of the fun is reading the lyrics sheet while listening to the album (the growls are generally vague): "Unas Hath Ingested Their Spirits / Hath Feasted On Their Immortality", anything like this might read in the seal of Tutankhamun's coffin. A flawless death metal album from the old legends that will possibly go down as one of the genre's best! I would say without a shadow of a doubt that this is the best Death Metal release of the year, and one of the best in the past 5-7 years... It really doesn't rise any feelings in me. The Official Metal Board Music.
5 star (90%) rating is fully deserved. Yes, I still think Nile is relatively entertaining for tech death. In Their Darkened Shrines III: Destruction Of The Temple Of The Enemies Of Ra. This is intelligent, brutal music on a lyrical as well as musical level. 'Where Is The Wrathful Sky' continues to light this tremendous second half on fire, beginning with a distant ominous rumble of thunder and the patter of war drums that usher in a raging death-metal banger. If you enjoyed this article, be sure to share it with others to help us grow. Also, I think that they may be second only to Opeth in terms of how well they combine brutality with an epic, atmospheric feel.
On that basis, it's one of the best death metal albums you will hear this year but only time will tell how this fares in the overall Nile discography. A track like the very impressive 11:43 minutes long "Unas Slayer of the Gods" even display a progressive side of Nile. Since the release of "Black Seeds of Vengeance (2000)", drummer Tony Laureano (Angelcorpse, Aurora Borealis, Malevolent Creation, Eulogy... ) has joined the lineup. Sticker Size (imperial): 3" x 3". It all gets a little flattened, a little overdone. Tech-death can go either way for me, it's either brilliant or highly annoying, but Nile have always been at the top of their game and the industry, and a band who have always grabbed me by the throat.
Whether it be the excellent scene setting intro of "That Which is Forbidden", the epic "The Imperishable Stars are Sickened" or the straightforward aggression of "Snake Pit Mating Frenzy", there is a lot to listen to here; the individual instruments, the superlative production and even... the song writing. Vote down content which breaks the rules. Their latest ride is entitled, What Should not be Unearthed. Also, there is a track in the center of the album that is kind of a slow burn akin to 'Sarcophagus'. Despite not receiving any credit, I hope Relapse is paying royalties to Mr. Leif Edling! )
The sound quality of the music is absolutely perfect, though the bass is somewhat buried in the mix, the only real problem I could see anyone having with the album. There's some nice epic keyboards and an ominous spoken word passage in the middle. An interesting use of past metal tomes in writing new ones. Vile Nilotic Rites is everything a fan would want in a modern Nile album and so much more. Not only is this album brutally heavy, but the guitar riffs and solos are extremely technical, the drum work fast, furious, and intricate, the lyrics well thought out and mesmerizing (especially for fans of ancient Egyptian history & mythology, as well as general horror concepts), and the vocals are some of the best in the genre. And now I have been reminded of the fact that Nile is by all means one of the icons of this entire genre. Album Type: Full Length.
Although many of the tracks are played at breakneck speeds and feature high levels of aggression and brutality, there are heavier more atmospheric parts featured on the album too. Orders are processed and delivered Monday-Friday (excluding public holidays). The track itself has some nice moments and the acoustic like intro is gentle and proper to flow straight into a bone crushing track. Lo, it was only a few weeks ago that I connected Karl Sanders' heavily Ancient Egyptian themed death metal band Nile with the spells of the Ancient Egyptian book of the Dead. Their immersive themes are a whirlwind of vivid imagery and the savagery of their music always kicks up a sandstorm of face-peeling brutality. After revisiting this, I can safely and confidently say that it is one of the most complete, top of its game, perfectly executed, mean, hideous, enthralling, gripping, unbelievable, remarkable, outstanding, stupendous, stunningly atmospheric, wicked, dense, brutal, technical, grim, malignant, fierce, prevailing, league of its own, simply mesmerising death metal albums I have ever fcking heard.
