We spoke to Academy Award winning costume designer of Into The Woods, Colleen Atwood, about what it was like to work with Anna Kendrick, design a real-life Cinderella dress and make her own magical musical world... How did designing for this film compare to other movies you've worked on? An outfit inspired by the Witch would look fab on a winter night out – especially if you want to embrace your edgy side. I mean, who doesn't love things from the original Grimm's tales, like Sleepy Beauty waking up pregnant with twins, or the ugly step-sisters cutting off toes to fit into the glass slipper? Oh, and I should say that I've never seen Into the Woods before this film version. Atwood: "There are so many witches that I kind of didn't. What was your starting point for the design process? Atwood: "I like a tight pant, but there are no tights on the boys.

Everyone went into the woods, some people, like The Witch, were of the woods -- so I used all the textures from trees and the light and dark of the forest as some of the inspiration and for the patterning and the surface of the costumes.
Into the Woods Is a Fairy-Tale Musical Without Much Magic. Tell me about Meryl Streep's costumes for The Witch -- she has two very different looks in the film. Did Red Riding Hood's cape have many requirements? Rapunzel wore this classic pink outfit that looked like it came straight out of a book of fairy tales. Anna Kendrick Says It was "Freaky" Performing as Cinderella at the Oscars. I just finished the sequel to "Alice in Wonderland, " which Tim produced but didn't direct.
