Too many good books, too much time, too much money. There are science activities that are fun, enjoyable and great learning experiences. 'And my God shall supply ALL your needs according to his riches in Glory! My Father's World does update their material but works hard to make sure you can still use their materials by sending you new schedules and making sure student sheets correspond.

If you are looking for more time than that, the Book Basket has tons of book suggestions and you can always read those aloud as well. Even though I use my own Language Arts options, I highly, highly, highly recommend MFW. I'm so excited to start a new year with them again. Also, some of the books in MFW aren't necessarily read aloud; the child looks at the pictures, read the captions together, discuss what you are learning - active learning, not just sitting and listening to Mom's voice for half the day. My Father's World is most commonly paired with Sonlight curriculum. You have a variety depending on the year and such. We love MFW and have been using it for 3 years now. I used SL prek and K. Well, actually only got through to almost half of K before I stopped- I didn't think my dd was "getting it. " When, all we need is proper portions over the days and weeks. My Father's World pricing has changed a lot since we began, a using it in Kindergarten. Read-aloud so stinking much. How does My Father's World compare to Abeka? I'm leaning towards Sonlight or My Father's World for next year. You may think, how can my 6th grader learn the same science as my 3rd grader? Having too much to read can be overwhelming to young minds, and again it seems to be all about the reading. Both of my kids are bookworms, and will sit and read the book basket of living books for hours (Charlotte Mason).
I have felt the freedom to leave out, or emphasize, the approach that works best for each child, or season in our life, without having to buy a separate curriculum. History Books to be read|. Now they are pulling non fiction and fiction books out of the library to read on their own. My Father's is also less expensive than many others because it's a one classroom style, meaning you only have to buy one curriculum for your whole family (depending on age of course), so your cost will be much lower. There is even a hymn study scheduled for a later year. Since beginning MFW life is good. Christ is first in MFW, not in FIAR. It is so rich all the way around.
I could go on but will stop leaves time for other life activities such as piano, dance, soccer and mom to go to the gym... My husband and I agree that WE are learning as much as the kids and we never had this great of an education in elementary or high school. Am I making sense at all? If the library doesn't have that exact book in the list, I can find a similar book on the same topic. I've been on some forums where people do say it wasn't enough for them. Is MFW on social media? I would prefer that my children get a solid foundation in God's word and THEN start learning about other stuff, and I like how MFW integrates the Bible studies and immerses the young student with no room for confusion (again, this is my impression of it having not yet used it). Pray about your decision too.

We are on our second year using it after a year of Abeka and a half year of ACE. Sonlight was just too much for us. I don't know if it's changed much since then or not. It's easy to lose their attention eventually.
I'd have the schedule perpetually messed up, because some books we'd wind up way ahead on (because I'm not going to put a book down when the kids still want to hear the story, unless necessary) and other books we'd be way behind. MFW is not active on social media. For example, in MFW1 I would read a Bible story, then my ds would read the Bible story from the Bible reader, narrate it to me, summarize it in his Bible notebook, draw a picture of the story, and put the time-line figure on the time-line. So, if you're familiar with the "art" day in FIAR, the Come Look with Me books work in a similar fashion.
DS 11 & DD 9 ECC, Spectrum English & Spelling, TT 4 & 5, Everybody Rosetta Stone Italian. They expect each day of a program to be like a full buffet meal to be eaten in full. Thanks for all of the suggestions! I don't remember that in FIAR. In fact, I still have many of them today I read to my younger ones. It's been just enough. I see one curriculum says they are "very hands-on, because we have science experiments" and another is "very hands-on because we have crossword puzzles. " We got led to MFW, and by the end of the school year, I'd scraped up enough money to buy it. But it's easy to tweak if you want to). I'd probably use sonlight and just skip some of the stuff i saw as overload because #1 i like the materials they select and #2 they are more orthodox christian friendly.
SL is too expensive for me. Figuring out the sequences of what to buy from Sonlight was a little confusing at first. We supplement with math and some social studies. Heart I'm going to spend some more time at their site... Mama Calidad. As an 8 year old (9 on 9/24) my DD still needs books with some pictures, plus chapter books. This J's where its hard to coteach.
