May be a little dirty, but I've never come away from the range with a lot soot on my hands, maybe a little dirty, but usually that is dirt from the ground picking up brass. I'll save the 4227 for another time! It's bulkier than HP-38/WW231 and burns cleaner. I agree it is better to use different powders though. In an 8" barrel or a rifle barrel, they can deliver hundreds of fps more, but in a short-barreled revolver, the velocity advantage is greatly diminished. I can say it is snappy as hell with a +P load but doesn't shoot a huge fireball. I also use a heavier 125 grain bullet now. Used bullseye, 231, and titegroup for practice loads.
