I learned about a simple but powerful summarizing strategy called Somebody Wanted But So. Many kids have a hard time retelling/summarizing a passage or story. Especially if you have kids create a foldable out of it. It is also a great team activity for students to use. If the text is long students may need to break it into chunks. Students could also record a video using a tool such as Adobe Spark video to generate a visual version of their final product. But our students often need scaffolding tools to help them see the difference between summarizing and retelling. By the way, here's the laminator that I use and love. Discuss with students the difference between a summary and a retelling of the story.
