The 'what if's' which were a part of Autumn become the part of the reader's mind.

I liked Autumn so much from the outset, but she grew on me, exponentially so, as did her friends, her mum (and aunty) and, of course, Finny and now I just have this love for them and I know I won't ever be forgetting this gorgeous, beautiful and achey story. The two protagonists spend one bloody day together after confessing and consummating their great love, and are separated forever the next day? But with Finn, she couldn't see her life without him so she felt that it was the only answer. I had the best intentions and high expectations for this story. I did not expected it to be this good. What I loved: how realistic it felt. Maybe even a box of tissues. Oh, these two touched my heart so much! I know we were warned, but oh my god this book destroyed me 😭💔. This is, of course, where sex comes in. If I had felt anything. However, the whole thing falls apart in the last couple of pages with an abrupt weak ending. Throughout the entire book, the text is divided into small passages that end abruptly. As a reader the story's slow build up to Autumn and Finny declaring their love which does finally occurs in the last 90% of the book.
It took a while for the plot to begin zooming up a hill (I always refer to roller coasters everyone) but it somewhat wasn't boring and I had no thoughts of wanting to put the book down. I can understand using frequent line breaks when they serve a purpose, such as to convey a character's limited mental faculties or a serious mental disorder, but in this case, neither is true. They were pregnant at the same time and had their children within a week of each other. Now, they do their best to ignore each other. Yes, there is a huge emphasis on romance in the book, but at its core, it is a poignant coming-of-age story covering friendship, fitting in, first loves, family dynamics, and what it means to be a kid in high school. Unlike literally the rest of the world I am the only person that didn't realize how this was going to end.
Autumn and Finny's story is one that will stay with you forever and ever. I've gotten over my initial anger over how the book ended. Finn was my overall favourite character. Just when you think you've had enough the few chapters after that hit you harder. He defends her and she confides in him. I do have to say that the beginning was slow. It is heavily character-driven, with the "main" plot occurring at the very end. Finn is such a sweet guy and is a devoted friend so I couldn't help but cheer for him to end up with Autumn even though they were both dating other people. I really have all positive things to say about this book EXCEPT for the ending.
There were no descriptive details and the writing style was very simplistic. I actually had two different ideas which way the ending would go and the author used both, which was bizarrely satisfying. She lives her life in her own head and at the same time, she lives her real life as well. Despite their mothers being best friends, and being neighbours, there was always that awkward tension between them when they spent "family time" together. I kept wondering how far the author would take this - how far she would really go to torture me. I love to read heartbreaking stories because they make me feel alive. I read through the first chapter quickly and when I read the line about what she hoped would be true I believed it at face value. This story deals with mental health issues, depression and really has you questioning how I face you grew apart from friends. What I loved about this book was that it was so real.
I had a feeling there was something off about Jamie since the beginning and I loved Finny, who was just as amazing as Autumn. I envy those readers their first time reading experience waiting before them. There were some flaws and things that could have been better, but I liked it.
