I bought a new box of federal. Mass produced products in the lower price ranges often don't have the fit and finish one would expect from a more expensive product, but that doesn't keep you from doing a little polishing and fitting yourself. A Weaver-style rail was standard on the pistols for the easy addition of a scope for hunting and competition. I do like the flat sided better but it has the slim grips and the other the wide target style grip. Also make sure the gun is clean and the recoil white spacer is not broken. The other thing that really set this pistol apart from its competitors was the Weaver style rail on the barrel. Don't ask me how I know this. Usually the 3rd round would feed properly into the action, the gun would then fire flawlessly until the magazine was empty. The wooden grips I would thin down a bit, it is a bit thick the rubber is a lot thinner and there is nothing I can do about that other than replace them with the wood type. I think this pistol is rather accurate and well-balanced, although it does have some problems that are worth worrying about. I have always used round nose bullet ammo, Aguila Std Vel, Centurion, Sk Std+, Wolf MT in my 22A-1 with no feed issues, never tried any hollow points. As you can see in the picture, the more squared off bullets like the two on the left gave most of the feeding problems. More rounded nose bullets, such as CCI Blazers, Mini-Mags, and CCI Standard Velocity all worked well, with the Mini-Mags and CCI Standard Velocity ammo working the best of what I tested.
