I don't get to do those lessons. I feel that my dd has a well rounded education. My father's world vs sonlight. I bought a program mentioned above and put it away in a matter of weeks because nothing made sense. Ninth Grade's history study was only Creation to the Greeks, so I assumed 10th grade would follow the family cycle and do Rome to Reformation, but I bought the 10th grade World History and Literature (which I sold without using) and it CRAMS all the history from Rome to Modern Times into one year.
I briefly mentioned the cost earlier but this is a huge difference, as well. Just rote memorization, sitting for long periods of time and listening to chapter books would really frustrate her. The basic package used to include all your core subjects, and the deluxe had extra fine arts and some elective supplies. Yes, you check for supplies on hand. While studying "K" in kindergarten, we integrated science & art by making Kangaroo pouches, Bible with biblical truth that "God keeps us safe", and literature with story books in the book basket about Kangaroos. I am leaning towards MFW, though. And I don't really know what my dc's styles are yet, so I'd rather do something to touch on each one. In order to provide some other side of the debate insights. With mfw, any enrichment reading is that - enrichment, but not a specific required title. To The Rock Homeschool: High School Curriculum, Tenth Grade: Switching from MFW to Sonlight. Would still recommend the MFW Family cycle to families who has multiple children. I can skip Bible Memorization, because my kids are in AWANA and BSF. New Siggy Coming Soon.
After looking at the Kindergarten Teacher's manual, I was hooked on the ease of the lessons and the gently Charlotte Mason inspired approach. I'm going to try to compare the two side by side at our Convention. For High School it is actually more budget friendly for us to do Sonlight, which is what we are doing. What drew me to SL were the books, as I'm a big reader, and my daughter loved for me to read to her. I've said this on the board before and hope it doesn't get old, but my dd cried when we finished ADV because it was such a great year. As a busy mom, I so appreciate this! The one about the science being weak? Sonlight vs My Father's World vs Sonlight - K-8 Curriculum Board. I'm so excited to start a new year with them again. There is always an easier way to do something, I'll do that. I'm a little worried about the read alone load of Sonlight burning them out... I found that I'm naturally very eclectic when it comes to homeschool curriculum.
I can pick and choose books from the long list of options in the "Book Basket", depending on what is available at my library or what I think will interest my kids. They are simplified so that they are doable - in other words, you get stuff that's been practiced by other families to get it right. We have no regrets in using MFW. K for Kangaroo Pouches|. Too many of the books were introducing topics that I wanted to wait until 3rd or 4th grade for. Yes, we have ALL boys. The Bible feels tacked on to me. Ok, I'm back with my:twocents I've never used Sonlight, only read through their catalog & considered it. I personally do not think MFW is "light" or "easy" but rather I would describe MFW as: steeped in God's Word, rich, challenging, lots of great reading, fun, easy to do hands-on projects that truly enrich learning, no twaddle, good, sound science with manageble #/type of experiments... Sonlight vs my father's world high school. The family cycle is full of living books as you study history of our nation and the world, which is the incorporation of my beloved Charlotte Mason philosophy. Im worried about the early years of the family cycle being too mature for younger ages – not age-appropriate. When I think of all the frustration that I experienced using SL for our first 4 I didn't know about MFW at the time. I found easy-to-implement hands-on activities that were simple but fun.
I have been using MFW for 10 years, and never once used/done all the assignments in a given week.
