I just got the drivers side CV axil halfshaft repaired by a repair shop yesterday, and now today the truck will not engage into 4wd Hi. Called 2-high, this is what is considered the standard gear for all normal rain or shine street driving, and will be the position your transfer case shifter sits in for the majority of your driving time—assuming the vehicle is a daily driver. My experience was that it would go into 2WD nicely. Would you check to see if you agree?
And the truck drives funny and makes a funny noise also. Turn key enough so you can to shift to neutral, put on 2wd then start it up. 16v 5 spd, milled head, LROR Stage 2 clutch. I'm not sure what is going on, your truck must be in neutral 2 times, one on your transfer case and the other on transmission. Maybe you can spray some PBlaster in it. But I may be wrong on that. In both cases, all four wheels are receiving power from the engine via the transfer case, but the gearing selected within the transfer case (high or low, just like with our mountain bike) determines your top speed and capabilities. I took it back to the shop, and told them that the transfer case was working fine before I brought it to them but they are basically denying ever even touching the transfer case even though they told me they test drive the truck in 4wd after replacing the CV Halfshaft. Newer vehicles like this will have a button to push for 4L instead of the old days when you would do it yourself with a heavy-duty mechanical lever in the vehicle. Now for the bad news - I think the "Insert (Shift Forks)" have worn out on your transfer case. I know, "take the truck in to have it scanned.
