Today I'm going back to the Norse myths which I absolutely love and when I saw this book on BookSirens, I had to request it and I was lucky enough to get approved and get my hands on early. That didn't stop me from absolutely screaming, sobbing, clutching my chest, and wishing for death as I went through this fantastic debut novel. One of the things that's always drawn me to mythology is how they reflect on the lives of real people (and in that way, mythologies tend to show similarities with each other from around the world). Plus, when you set someone up to be the bad guy time and again, what choice do they have but to be what you make them?
She didn't shy away from the hard parts of being LGBT+ either. I'll go lie down now. And in classic myth fashion, expect a generous amount of tragedy and conniving gods and goddesses. And possibly the reader in the process. 5 not because I felt it had major flaws, but some elements of the book that may work for others did not work for me. Loki is, I think it's fair to say, the deuteragonist and other main character, and I also like this version of them a lot. I laughed, cried, got angry, felt secondhand embarrassment, got my heart broken, and I fell completely in love with the characters. And it was really frustrating for Thor and the others to flipflop so often where it concerned Loki and Sigyn. Fair warning, this book WILL make you cry.
