When books slow down and nothing of significance occurs, the reader attention dips. Mary E. Pearson Thanks for reading The Remnant Chronicles AND Dance of Thieves! Kirkus Reviews Issue: Aug. 15, 2019. by Alexandra Monir ‧ RELEASE DATE: March 6, 2018.
By Mary E. Pearson ‧ RELEASE DATE: Aug. 7, 2018. In an attempt to seem more realistic, these types of relationships accomplish the opposite with the added bonus of being shallow. I can only hope the next will be delightful as the 512 pages I just read. Dance of Thieves is set in the Remnant World, with new characters, new kingdoms, and maybe a "glimpse" of some old favorite characters;) It comes out in August 2018. As a result, Dance of Thieves makes dishonesty and retaliatory violence heroic and sets up its protagonists to be as terrifying as the villains they face. I have a huge library of books on the craft of writing. Vow of Thieves has a similar secret; it's relatively big, and it does affect the plot, but not to the extent it did in the first series. She's sassy and strong but also sweet and silly and I loved her friendship with her fellow Rathvas Wren and Synové.
I don't find this book really compared, in terms of characters or plot. I can't wait to read the next one! All opinions are my own. Dance of Thieves has a lot of ties to TRC as it explores the aftermath of The Beauty of Darkness. There were some parts where I did feel the story drag on and I had to put the book aside for a bit but I don't think I was ever bored. Riddles are what broke down the wall between them in the first place. I was feeling super nostalgic the whole time reading this book and I'm so grateful to Mary Pearson for bringing us back! The enemies - lovers - enemies - lovers - enemies - lovers trope should have become tiresome but instead it was so carefully plotted and interwoven with the books political storyline that it felt integral to the book and very well done. However, when Kazi runs into Jase, they have a... skirmish of sorts that I wont spoil... and both end up being kidnapped and hauled away by a slave trader. This would make finding her way into Tor's Watch harder, but both Kazi and Jase are abducted to be sold into the human slave market.
The enemies-to-lovers and the ANGST was just perfect. Also, you'll have a connection to the familiar faces (Lia, Rafe, etc. ) Kazi is lured to Hell's mouth by her companion / lover Jase, but instead of having to sneak into the palace, she believes is providing sanctuary to the captain, Kazi has been invited in as a guest allowed to roam the city. 4⭐ - It was really good! Reading about protagonists who take on the attributes of deceit and cruelty, the same attributes of the villains they fight, is another. Mary E. Pearson's Dance of Thieves is a new YA novel in the New York Times bestselling Remnant Chronicles universe, in which a reformed thief and the young leader of an outlaw dynasty lock wits in a battle that may cost them their lives—and their hearts. When Kazi and her friends come into the picture, Jase knows better than to trust her, but the more he learns about her, the harder it is to stop himself from falling for her. However, it was so lulling, even a bit befuddling, that I seriously considered foregoing this reading excursion for one a bit more interesting.
With opposing loyalties and many to mistrust at court, the two dance dangerously close to death as the relationship between them strengthens. However, the enemies to lovers dynamic doesn't last as nearly as long as it should and the romance feels a bit too… sudden. My next books with be fantasy as well, in a similar vein since they are set in the Remnant Universe. Jase brought out a new, soft, yet also paradoxically strong, side of her.
Secondly, I think there were a lot of unnecessary scenes. Thank you so much for reading and loving them. But the arrival of a new group of people changes eveything for him. Author: Jamie Sugah. Before Kazi's life as one of the Queen's soldiers, she was orphaned and an invisible street rat, who became a petty thief in order to survive. I'm desperately hopeful that the next novel turns it around for me and I enjoy this series so much more. The Heart of Betrayal really surprised me after I didn't quite connect with The Kiss of Deception the way I'd hoped and set some pretty high expectations for the end of the trilogy. Audiobook, from my library. As for the Komizar, maybe one of these days I will have to write a short story about him.
I appreciate so much when speculative fiction stories explore mental health because trauma isn't confined to realistic fiction! Can't find what you're looking for? It spoils the outcome of the final book if you are planning to eventually read the original trilogy.
As much as I love that book, I can admit it was largely romance driven and the plot really prioritized the love triangle. The Kiss of Deception (The Remnant Chronicles #1) by Mary E. Pearson. The story tries desperately to balance his cruelties with his kindnesses–the times he thinks of Kazi's happiness, the way he suddenly reverses his feelings on refugees and begins sending them supplies instead of trying to remove them from his land. Kazi: she's my favorite.
