I was shocked by the author's implication that Santiago might be an innocent after all and as to why Angela mentioned his name that night remains to be pondered upon. And as she grows in power, she muses that "not even Odysseus could talk his way past [her] witchcraft. One feels as if one is watching a Spanish Mafia movie or something like that and for that reason, if not the compelling story, I implore that you read the book. The nature of a crime is a commentary on the people who live in the society in which it occurs. As its title suggests, Chronicle of a Death Foretold tells the story of a murder that occurred nearly 30 years earlier in a small town. In the end, the focus remains on the killing of Santiago Nasar. The implications against are fantastically drawn up, but there is nothing really to pit the dark forces against beyond themselves. Meaning, the only information that we are capable of learning is the information that the narrator collects in his travels back to the town (in a pseudo-journalistic structure) and through his memories of the event itself. Then Garcia Marquez sends her up to the balcony and makes her see what she has done, which is more than she would remember. Strong character development?
B>I won't give content warning for this novel due to it containing a major spoiler in regards to the plot, but if you read before from Garcia Marquez, his unexpected grotesque descriptions are not missing from this one! In Chronicle of a Death Foretold, as in Leaf Storm and No One Writes to the Colonel, the community is charged with a moral responsibility for its indirect participation. Similarly to the way the murder takes place in the novel, in broad daylight, the two brothers knifed Cayetano to death in the town's plaza. Not really guilty, just hideously effective despite themselves. Other than that, the novella transcends in every element of storytelling while coating it all up in vivid, descriptive language that just captivates and penetrates the deepest abode of one's perception of language. The reader, depending on the choice of focus, can recognize several different themes in this novel. While Chapter 1 stars at 5:30 and has Santiago killed by 7:05, an hour and thirty-five minutes later, the narrator eventually takes the reader all the way back to the end of the nineteenth century and its civil wars. How often is it that we hear someone say they are going to do something bad and then we stand back and do nothing to stop them? It was the last time she saw him. '' No one in town is as rich as Bayardo San Roma ́n.
