There's something else worth noting here about the ending. This Thing Between Us is a magnificent debut novel from a writer whose career I'll certainly be following. Considering this is a debut it has an impressive range of big hitters singing its praises, including Paul Tremblay, Brian Evenson, John Langan and Stephen Graham Jones who all provide cool quotes which incapsulate the spirit of the book nicely. Loved the beginning sections, thought it was a solid exploration of grief, and felt that there were some genuinely creepy moments. Part 2 is Thiago experiencing a haunting evil presence that contaminates every element of his life, no matter how far he runs. It was such an effective horror story with slowly creeping dread but what gave it the icing of the cake was the terrific writing of Gus Moreno - what a phenomenal new talent to keep an eye on in the future! The beauty of reviewing books as a hobby is the simple fact that you can never predict what delights the next item on the TBR might bestow, because once in a while a cracker arrives which will unexpectedly blow away even the most jaded of reviewers. But, she was so determined to get the answers she was seeking from him that she forgot to care for herself. Gus Moreno's strange and beguiling debut novel This Thing Between Us was such an experience, it will not be to all tastes, but if you are a fan of vague weird fiction where there are no clear explanations or answers then it is an absolute stonker. The point of the novel was to instil fear and a straightforward ending would not have suited this read, the vagueness heightened the read in retrospect but upon finishing, my immediate reaction was confusion.

Ouch—his candor and bitter honesty kind of blow her mind. " I loved how the final quarter of this book peels back the veil so that the reader gets a larger picture of what is going on, yet the author skillfully doesn't reveal the entire truth. This part of this book can almost be compared to something like House of Leaves- it is a series of bizarre events that string together into Thiago's own personal haunting as he tries to uncover how to escape it. Compare and contrast these connections of love. How do those moments heighten the emotion of the story? When they start to do research into the former owner, they discover odd things.
