While conducting my job search over the summer of 2021, I came across a post from Cathryn from SoCal Water Babies, looking for swim instructors. Esta dirección de correo electrónico está siendo protegida contra los robots de spam. There were many hours spent in the pool, as well on academics, but my passion for ISR only grew and I enjoyed every second. The ISR Instructor Training Program is a 6-week process comprised of both in-water training, video review, and a significant amount of academic study. SoCal Water Babies and Cathryn Van Der Linden's track record speaks for themselves: all of her past students have been able to complete the rollback to float sequence and none of her past students have experienced an in-water incident that resulted in injury or drowning. No other swim class offers a proven system for safely teaching your child to enjoy the fun of swimming, while at the same time teaching life saving skills that are proven to save lives. I want to fulfill my mission, the one I promised when I decided to become an ISR Instructor, that not one more child drowns, and no parent has to go through the pain of losing a child. They learned how to float and behave safely while they were in the water.
WHY ARE LESSONS 5 DAYS A WEEK? My goal is to bring the ISR Self-Rescue® program to as many families in Northeast Georgia as possible! Seeing a need for this important program in Michigan, I began to research becoming an ISR instructor. As a school psychologist who works with infants and toddlers, I have training in many of the same foundational skills that help make ISR so successful. There are thousands of competing swimming Instructors nationwide, and parents can easily find a person or an organization willing to teach swimming to young children. We hope to see you soon at the pool and have the pleasure to teach your child ISR Self-Rescue® skills. If these defenses fail, the person closest to the problem–the child–must know how to survive an aquatic accident. ISR's core conviction is that the child is the most important part of a drowning prevention strategy. This certification is the gold standard and provides the most comprehensive training for swim instructors. WHAT FURTHER LESSONS WILL MY CHILD NEED? There is an important difference between being fearful and being apprehensive because you are not yet skilled in a dangerous environment. I am also certified in Adult/Pediatric CPR and First Aid. Thank you ISR for creating such a wonderful program, and for being such advocates for pediatric drowning prevention!
I am so glad that we made the commitment to do ISR. A baby does not need to perceive danger or be afraid to respond appropriately to being underwater. The training also includes education and testing in subjects such as anatomy, child psychology, physiology and behavioral science. The closest lessons were a 50 minute drive one way, but I had to take her for my peace of mind. Also, teaching children how to respond to an aquatic emergency takes incredible concentration and objectivity. We start where they are. After I graduated I decided to apply to become an ISR Instructor to help with the mission of "not one more child drowns". It was just important to me to go ahead and get her started. I did not know about ISR until my cousin told me about it, and I want to make sure as many parents as possible know about this option! However, winter time is when you will usually see the best retention rate.
I am passionate about water safety and helping your child gain a healthy respect for the water. That is the only skill they need to find themselves in water danger. I look forward to helping your child become an aquatic problem solver where they feel comfortable in/around water and have the ability to both enjoy it and utilize self-rescue techniques should the need arise. With the recent increase in water related deaths including the one today of 2 boys in pool described as 'heartbreaking and terrible accident'. Combining these two elements, Infant Swimming Resource created a structure whereby approved recipients of the ISR Pay It Forward Scholarship would pay a significantly reduced fee to become ISR Instructors and independent business owners, in exchange for their commitment to, within 24 months of being certified, provide free lessons to 10 children. As a California native, I have always had a great love for the water. Although swim lessons provide 1 layer of protection from drowning, swim lessons do not "drown proof" a child, and parents must continue to provide barriers to prevent unintended access when not in the water and closely supervise children when in and around water. " HOW CAN A CHILD LEARN ANYTHING IN 10 MINUTES?
Unfortunately, most only taught children to blow bubbles, splash and play, and be comfortable in the water and give them a false sense of security, not how to save their lives if they were ever in a situation where they needed the skills between life or death. With the training I received from ISR, I can make a difference in the lives and survival of our most precious treasure, our children. ISR has over 1, 000 documented survival stories. Any advantage I can give my baby to help her be more comfortable in the water, and the skills to save herself if she should ever fall in alone, I'm gonna do it! It gives the child a false sense of security. Because we teach through sensorimotor learning, verbal skills are not required for a child to acquire Self- Rescue skills. Cheri Slay is who teaches ISR in Lexington and she is wonderful! Remember, your child may not talk, but he or she has learned to crawl, walk and run. It can be a time of apprehension in and around the water because your child has not had time to perfect his or her new skills. Can you teach a child who is not verbal how to swim? Properly fitting and tested life jackets - not Puddle Jumpers or water wings - must be worn on a boat and around any source of open water when there is the potential for an accidental submersion. ISR stands for Infant Swimming Resource (in case you are like me and need to know what things stand for! ) However, traditional lines of defense break down, and the over 4, 000 drowning deaths per year bear a grim testament to the fact that traditional approaches are missing a key component: the child.
Mommy & Me – Hazards. What began as one man's mission has transformed into a worldwide organization. DO YOU TEACH CHILDREN WITH DISABILITIES? As a parent, ensuring the safety of my little ones is of the utmost importance. If a child learns that he can jump in the water and go into a vertical posture and he will be able to breathe, he is getting the wrong idea about that environment. And with Red Cross Digital Certificates you'll get anytime, anywhere access to your certificates; plus the ability to print, share, and download them wherever and whenever you like.
After speaking with our pediatrician, this is what we chose to do, and we could not be happier with the program, the instructor, and the results. ISR is the only medically sound program proven to save lives. Financial Assistance is available to those who qualify through organizations such as Live Like Jake Scholarship Funds, feel free to email me at for more info. Be leary of any program that advertises they can. Now, the Instructor Training Program has been enhanced to include online academic coursework, in-person academic study, and an unashamedly elite and rigorous in-water hands-on training experience.
I grew up spending a lot of time at beaches and pools and always loved being in the water. After my oldest daughter completed lessons through ISR Lubbock I moved forward with getting certified as an Instructor. Trained by Infant Aquatics. In addition to English, we also speak Spanish, so feel free to contact us in any of these two languages. If your instructor feels any of these key measurements are not as they should be, your child's lesson will not take place. Earn your certification to teach American Red Cross swimming and water safety, and gain the skills needed to teach courses and make presentations to swimmers of every age and ability.
Rather than blow bubbles and sing songs, our primary focus is to make sure each student can SURVIVE in the water and be an aquatic problem solver. My mission is to teach children the ISR Self-Rescue skills needed to survive if ever in an aquatic emergency and to SWIM for fun. Cameron was 14-1/2 months when we started ISR. ISR is not like traditional swim lessons; it is a drowning prevention program that teaches survival swimming. Understanding the behaviors of children in the water allows each Instructor to respond with ISR's proprietary technique.
I look forward to working with you and your child as they become amazing aquatic problem solvers. The 6-week average is based on the average time it takes most children to learn these survival skills. Today, 11 children will drown in the United States. It is shown that children in this age range attain skills best within the first 10 minutes. It was imperative that my children go through the program as well! While ISR Financing products cannot be combined with the ISR Pay It Forward Scholarship, each package features a fee-simple, fixed rate, 24-month terms with as little as 30% down, payments beginning once certified, no damaging hard credit checks in our online application process and, best of all, quite simply unbeatable interest rates starting at 2.
All Instructors are required to maintain current CPR and First Aid certification and proper insurance. It's our job to not only provide EVERY child with ISR Self-Rescue® skills, but to provide those skills safely and adequately for each child. If any program claims children learn to hold their breath by "drinking or swallowing water", please know this is not true! Your child's daily routines outside of ISR lessons hold valuable data for your instructor. Founded by Harvey Barnett, Ph.
When we had our daughter, Cora, in 2017, we knew we had to do as much as we could to ensure she would be safe in and around the water. In high school, I swam for our local swim team, my high school team and played girls water polo.
