Is this a manifestation of Thiago's grief, or is it something in the universe out to get him? Thiago is this story's punching bag protagonist, it punches emotionally and otherwise, above and below the proverbial belt. Thiago doesn't have a deep knowledge of Mexican folklore or magical/spiritual traditions (although he does resort to it with help at one point) he is much more of an everyman-style protagonist. And, as you'd expect, all hell breaks loose…. Did it feel anticlimactic? Thiago, unable to rest comfortably in the home he and Vera once shared, decides that getting out of Chicago would be the best thing for him.
