However I identified with a number of items on their list of "Reasons NOT to use Sonlight":giggle Obviously, tons of people love SL & it works for their families. Which curriculum appealed to you the most personally? Sonlight vs my father's world high school. Reid (21) college student; used MFW 3rd-12th grades (2004-2014). However, these appear to be their 'official' profiles: Twitter. MFW is so much more Bible based, Jesus Christ is at the center, it is fun, easy to complete (not easy academically), easy to do (not easy in terms of work), and great academics. Even the upper grades are designed so that you would have your afternoons free. Our old curriculum, MFW high school, was much more simple: you bought 9th, 10th, 11th, or 12th grade depending on your child. One popular option is to use My Father's World for elementary and then jump to Sonlight for 7th grade and up. Mom to Gabi, a fun-loving and happy girl! I like to take things that I know work for my children and put it together.

We have always loved how many different History non-fiction "spine" resources and living books suggestions My Father's World provided or suggested, but this year it was back to one or two dry non-fiction textbooks, and pretty much no living book recommendations. Unfortunately, I don't have time tonight to elaborate, but I figured I'd post now so I'll be sure to come back when I can. MFW has enough depth to it that my child has learned and grown even in the year that we did a MFW curriculum that wasn't our favorite. Father and son light. Also, some of the books in MFW aren't necessarily read aloud; the child looks at the pictures, read the captions together, discuss what you are learning - active learning, not just sitting and listening to Mom's voice for half the day. I also appreciate that MFW is more innocent. GREAT books - best book lists out there. 2010: MFW First Grade. But if your child likes hands on activities, and you want to be a "relaxed homeschooler, " MFW is the way to go. Sonlight vs. My Father’s World –. Our crazy boys are 11, 9, 8, 5 and our sweet twin girls are 2! I keep hearing that it is A LOT, but we do love reading here. Literature breaks through the awkwardness and allows us to dig into both the good and bad of life. So we do most days and get through about 2 lessons done in 60-80 minutes.

After 1st grade (or 2nd depending on ages of kids), you start a family cycle you do Bible, History, Geography, and Science together as a family, then split for more individualized age-appropriate learning in Math and Language Arts. Most of all though it was at this point that I realized how important it is for me to have Bible integrated with History and used as the History spine. How about time issues... We did volumes 1-3 (that's what there was way back in the old day... we didn't do Beyond). Only that we don't have time to do them all and I get behind and beat myself up). I can pick and choose books from the long list of options in the "Book Basket", depending on what is available at my library or what I think will interest my kids. Teachers manual is so cumbersome.
My youngest loves fun, colorful curriculum where he can learn and express himself. Bible integration is very important to us. They have programs for K, 1st, 2nd-3rd combined, 3rd-8th combined, then high school. Teachers manual is soooo easy to use and not gigantic!!! I agree with Darcy's thoughts on sonlight, it is a ton of reading and often heavy reading. What are the pros and cons of each one?
For me personally, I am a visual learner with auditory waaaay at the bottom. That being said, I used Core A with my then 7 year old and he really liked it. If I used it, I would choose some required reading with it. For my family I don't think we would be content with only readings all the time. History is lighter than Sonlight -( I majored in history in college, I love history so I loved Sonlight.
For instance, my son really fought against Abeka, so we stopped using it. With book basket, you can have other titles than the ones on the MFW list and MFW will still work for you and work very well. I have always wanted to try Sonlight, but the cost was prohibitive. 2 they are more orthodox christian friendly. We love the opportunities for ministry that are provided. Many grades are even set up for "tag-alongs", a. k. a toddler siblings who love to listen to all the great books. Science is too random. Either way, I'm here to help. My advice is to move on if what you're doing isn't fun or benefiting either of you. We bought the basic package. Then we can also still have our great 'reading' time.
Which do you like better? Ds (12) 1st grade, ADV, ECC, CTG, RTR, EXP to 1850, 1850 to MT. I used FIAR with my oldest for her Kindy and 1st year. You read aloud Bible, Science, Geography, and then there's the Read alouds in the Deluxe package. Winterpromise looks REALLY interesting!
