I could totally see Midnight at the Blackbird Café being turned into a Hallmark movie, and I don't mean that as an insult. I enjoyed the mystery/magical/dream/message parts of it. After hearing the Beatles' "Blackbird" for the first time, it haunted me, and I played it obsessively. The Blackbird Cafe sells slices of pie that cause the eater to dream of a deceased love one, meaning there's some magical realism in Webber's novel, but it's not prominent to the point of distraction. While the Lindens and the Callows could not be more different, both familial lines share a passion for healing.
It was an okay story overall and it's interesting enough to keep reading but I wouldn't recommend it. When the terms of the will were revealed to Anna Kate, though, she learned that she had to remain in Wicklow and run the cafe for sixty days before she could settle her grandmother's estate and collect her inheritance.
