My little pet peeve is that the title is so great, but like the cover depicts, it's a pair of scissors that are the most prominent weapon in the book. There are certainly some thrilling elements in the book, but this is more of a true mystery that the characters and the reader get to unravel at the same time, which is something we do not see enough of. I think the story was extremely smart and stylishly written and delighted in finding every one of the skeletons in the closets. There were other secrets too—drugs, family issues, money issues, and secret ambitions—that the friends kept from each other. Book about a murder and a toxic friend group, anyone?? It is primarily from the first person perspective of Jessica.

Once called the East House Seven, the now six friends gather again and relive some of their glory days – and worst moments. She's ready, down to the envious whispers that are sure to follow in her wake. The way the characters and the plot are woven together, layers upon layers of revelations and lies and desperation and shame. However, the best crafted plans have a tendency to go awry - especially in books! I absoutely loved, loved, loved it! If I had not known better, I would have assumed this was a YA mystery. I am so glad I got myself a copy of this and will absolutely be recommending this one to anyone who has not yet read it.
Things I loved: Plot and Narration: The first thing I loved about this story is the attention to detail. She wants so much to be successful and to be liked that she doesn't care who she hurts to get there. Not who ultimately did the murder or even how the big reveal happened, but what happened in the aftermath of the whole thing. Not the girl she was when she left campus, back when Heather Shelby's murder fractured everything, including the tight bond linking the six friends she'd been closest to since freshman year. The core "friend" group consisted of three girls: Heather, Jessica, and Caro, and four guys: Jack, Frankie, Coop and Mint. You should definitely add this to your fall TBR!

The explanation for this was backstory about Jessica's father going to Harvard and never fulfilling his potential, which made her have to try to fulfill his dreams.
