In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by two brothers, Carl Cable and Sam Cable; and two sisters, Leona Cable and Ruby Marlowe. A lifetime resident of the area, Tom was a mechanic and truck builder with Crane Carrier and was a U. Preceding him in death was his mother Henrietta; stepmother, Joyce; stepbrother John CLARK; maternal grandparents Henry and Laura Bell KNIGHT GRIGSBY; and his paternal grandparents, John and Edna BROCK VAUGHN. Mrs. PUMPKIN was born March 30, 1922 in Adair County, Oklahoma, the daughter of William and Jennie CHRISTIE, and she died December 12, 1998 in Tulsa. He was born July 21, 1911 to Etta GORE HOLT and John William HOLT at Cold Springs, Okla. A former resident of Poteau, Okla., he retired as president of the Holt Telephone Companies a pioneer family-owned independent telephone company business which originated in the early 1900's with holdings in Oklahoma, Missouri and Arkansas. She is survived by: one daughter, Mary; four grandsons; two granddaughters; nine great-grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter. Mary was the last charter member of the Baron Baptist Church, where she was a faithful member for many years. He dedicated his professional life to education and learning by teaching mathematics in UNC's School of Education for 41 years, founding the University's Math-Science Center, and directing its Master of Arts in Teaching (MAT) program.
