I don't use any silicone/rtv either. Start all the bolts a few threads by hand, and then run them down with the socket till they just barely touch the cover. On a positive note you do not need to remove the Cam Positioning Actuator on the driver side so it just one less thing to deal with (however you should still unplug it). Ubbthreads/images/graemlins/. Only these two bolts are required to torque. XJ XJ8 / XJR ( X308). If you have the standard sbc heads a neat trick is to use rtv on the top of the gasket and a thin later of axle grease on the bottom. Go back to the center of the cover and snug the bolts up a lil tighter in the valley working from the center out.
