The other characters, however, were quite bland and felt a little bit like stand-in cardboards for Twilight-ish kinda roles, definitely not that appealing. I think the producers spent all they had on that magnificent water-dragon scene which is the reason I started watching this show, by the way, and they just didn't have enough left for the remaining episodes. Did you see The Bride of the Water God? Story: This drama was inspired from the manwha series Bride of water god by Yoon Mi Kyung and then they went ahead to rip the story into shreds turning it into bullshit. But sadly, he pretty much stays this way for the entire of the drama. Life may be tough but it is with the support of your loved ones that would make you pull through ultimately. But I enjoyed what it gave me. Just when time is waning fast for the lovers, the deities uncover the unfortunate fate of So Ah's father, whom she has hated for most of her life, as she assumed that he abandoned the family. I should also reiterate how amazing Im Joo Hwan was! Genre: rom-com, supernatural, manwha. Actors: Shin se kyung is a bad actress and i don't think i am going to watch any of her other dramas. It is hard to believe that this drama was written by the very same scriptwriter who gave us Arang and the Magistrate, a fantasy sageuk that I enjoyed a lot despite its somewhat draggy plot in the later half.
My favorite ship though it suffered from issues similar to the main romance. However, I do applaud her professionalism to continue filming the drama despite the demise of her grandmother. There are so many beautiful scenes including lush green scenery and rolling hills. The drama started on a high note and ended on such a lackluster finale. The Bride of the Water God is a modern take on the popular historical fantasy manhwa Bride of the Water God. But I tended to like it more as the drama progressed, and there are quite a few nice couple moments throughout. He's still pretty weak in terms of his facial expressions and body language but I do like the scenes in the final episode whereby both Ha Baek and Soo Ah were sacrificing in their respective ways for each other in order to have Ha Baek returning to the water world safely while Soo Ah being able to live her life well on Earth after his leaving. It's the romance which has the main focus on. Re-watch value: 2 out of 5 stars. Verdict: Overall: 3/10. To make such abrupt bullshit statement about this drama. Unbeknownst to So-ah, things are even worse: Her family is sworn to serve the heavenly realms whenever needed. However, this semblance disappeared very quickly. That's SEXUAL ASSAULT!!
There are a lot of poignant events in Bride of the Water God which are overshadowed by the lapses in the story framework. The central problem of the romance impossibility between a human and an immortal is unreasonably amplified by throwing in fragments of character-driven conflicts that do not involve the lead pair. The transition from amusing bickering to a picturesque relationship is what made the story bearable amidst the scattered stride of the characters along with the awkward chronicle twist. Even in the rare instances where he regained his powers, we were never offered a clear explanation for it. Habaek did something bad, So-Ah was annoyed, he did something cute and she was already okay with him again, this is a summary of almost every episode). I had high expectations for this drama, as Nam Joo-hyuk effectively made everyone and their mom fall for him hard in Weightlifting Fairy Kim Bok Joo. She has the passive aggressive behavior very common in kdrama female leads, and I hate it.
I understand that the natures of deities and humans are not the same but judging from what they say about the laws of the God Country, they're not all that different either. So, that wraps up my review for Bride of the Water God! If you're looking for a similar story as the manwha about sacrifice, love and grace and politics, then go watch something else because this has absolutely none of that shit. However, the narrative requires the viewers to be understanding of the plethoric ideas which happen recklessly in the story. It's almost ridiculous how the high priest shows up at the end to reveal Habaek fulfilled his (completely bogus) mission to discover the reason for hiding the divine stones in the human world and therefore doesn't need So-ah's wish to return to the heavenly world. She's just always been hung up on Habaek. He jumped into the water to save her but lost his life in the process. There is almost no chemistry between the leads and the other side actors aren't that commendable. Everyone has to live with regrets. Bride of the Water God had a promising storyline that would lure Kdrama addicts into it. If you were worried about the chemistry between the main couple, you can feel relieved. In fact, you stupid viewers, the high priest was there the whole time watching over Habaek.
I believe I've already seen it over 10 times since it aired so it's safe to say that I will most definitely be watching this drama AGAIN. The bad — Story and coherence. The biggest problem I see in her is the fact she suffers from something that I like to call stone resting face, th emotionless face expression, making her tries of demonstrate some emotion seem very forced and unnatural, it's something that I think she should work on for her next drama. The delays really weren't necessary and left big holes for fillers which was so annoying.
There's really no connection between them as a couple. It may or may not be the actual reality. She can play the hell out of any bitch. One of my favorite characters in this drama. Not willing to spend that sum of money. They don't really do anything, apparently – they were as boring in the Realm of the Gods as they were in the Human World. There was no follow-thru on many ideas.
He inevitably reports back on the completion of his mission but misses the woman he loves. What a low key bitch, right? Nothing goes in her favor yet she holds on to her dream of moving to Vanatu. Im Joo Hwan is also a phenomenal actor who can really bring through important subtleties in a character such as this.
Feelings will not be repressed. So much so, that a lot of viewers kept watching for him alone. There was also a particular scene in the beginning that was replayed several times throughout the series, which could only mean that it was an important scene. Im Joo Hwan was perfect for this role, and it just continues to re-enforce that he really should be getting more lead roles! I'm not sure I liked the Greek-inspired costumes that the deities wore in the celestial realm either. He emotionally blackmails her to make sure things always go his way and she constantly suffers. Consequently, the result was not satisfactory: the plot couldn't make me feel sadness or fun properly. I'm watching a fantasy drama because I want to escape from reality and see some magic right? What we choose to believe in is our truth, be it whether it is the cold hard truth. But as love flows freely, they confront their fears and agree to make the most of the time when they can be together.
Maybe the audience who are watching this are teenage girls or boys. While they were close growing up, Bi Ryeom was always trying to please Moo Ra. I loved everything about his character, and he goes on quite a difficult journey. Shin Se Kyung as Yoon So Ah (Mortal servant of the Water God). If you're looking for a quality kdrama, that is. The viewer will be completely lost half the time. It's tragic how utterly craptastic the show's plot was.
And with that, the episodes became very repetitive without much to add to the story development.
