Seriously Dugoni knows how to deliver, and he does so effortlessly in this powerful book. It's because it is convinced of its invincibility. In 2015, William is cleaning out his house when he finds the journal that he kept in Vietnam and sends it to William as thanks for listening to him all those years ago. A wonderful piece that shows how versatile Dugoni can be in his writing. I started and finished this book in less than 24 hours and I am still processing my thoughts and feelings as I write this. There is a very boring phrase for that, which is hard work. Réti was a very strong player, who died at the age of 40, unfortunately. The great mystery to me, which this book touches on, is that it's often said that these people are driven mad by chess, when actually it might have been the other way around – chess was the only thing that kept them from going off the deep end.
