Ever the detective, Marcellus the octopus is determined to unearth the truth to both characters before it's too late. I will definitely be following Van Pelt and patiently awaiting her next novel, as I'm sure after this one, she will be a cherished author among many readers.
As Marcellus figures out Cameron is the grandson, so does the reader. Author Shelby Van Pelt did a wonderful job of installing sadness into Tova's character without making her depressing and miserable. The octopus' point of view, though unusual, brings a magical haze to the novel, even as Tova and Marcellus realize their story is coming to an end. Or maybe, it would be more accurate to say they are stuck. Marcellus's life in captivity is much different than the life of an octopus in the wild — and eventually, Terry reveals that Marcellus was rescued from the sea after a life-threatening injury.
