Over the holy week break, I spent the entire four days just watching the 15 episodes of this Korean show. I conclude that it was a happy ending. The series' final few episodes, especially the last two, were far from perfect and yet were still convincingly affecting. Talk about psychological warfare, That Winter the Wind Blows definitely knew how to engage its viewer in an 9 week, 16 episode long emotional battle. She can be acidic and difficult, and makes it clear that she can survive on her own, owing to her battered and dysfunctional family history. All eliciting reactions of disbelief, but at the same time, incredibly being totally predictable, knowing that with the exception of Moo Chul, everyone else had a pretty good chance of surviving. We had to believe his loving treatment of Young wasn't just to get her in his good graces, but that he's truly fallen in love with her. I love the house, snow and the greenhouse very much. Just keep that past in mind, though in a blurry haze, and focus on the pretty and bright kiss between our lead couple. While she did delve into the agonised suffering that Soo-hyun undergoes—being a divorcee, or getting involved in all sorts of politics, you name it—-her acting became entirely too restrained after a point.
I still don't see how SW is possibly Soo's mother either 'cause there are no clues, connections, or hints between the two (if there were, then call me slow cause I can't figure it out lol). And Bae Jong Ok as Secretary Wang and Kim Tae Woo as Moo Chul both faced similar challenges to make their characters sympathetic and somewhat rootable despite the seemingly horrible things they've done. Undoubtedly, he is a good actor. Her personality, as vivacious and intriguing as it was in the beginning, witnesses a slow decline till she almost becomes a plot device to further Si-jin's narrative. She then flash back of noticing Soo's scar on his chest, I think it's his chest lol, at times when he's eating with them on the table and such. Song Hye-kyo, one of the highest-paid actors in South Korea, has starred in some of the highest-rated Korean shows that raged through the country as well as abroad—in particular her show Descendants of The Sun, the ultimate soapy, melodramatic and swoon-worthy series that spurred the Hallyu wave to astronomical heights. That Winter the Wind Blows was a pleasant and unexpected surprise I won't soon forget. In this empty world, could I not become your last reason to live? I would have liked to see more of his backstory: his family, his history with Oh Soo and Hee Joo, and why he's going about getting his revenge the way he did. He needed to make Oh Soo a conflicted hero.
I think he played the carefree yet intense thug fabulously, and transitioned flawlessly into someone who is both on the brink of salvation and poised to save another. That Winter, The Wind Blows, for all its faults, was actually one of the shows where Song Hye-kyo explored greys in her role and her anguish felt visceral. Jo In Sung and Song Hye Kyo are stunning people on their own, but together they are a feast for the eyes. His loyalty to Oh Soo was commendable but like Young, his love for his hyung is blind. I wasn't blind when you left, you know that. " Dislikes: Lots of heartaches of course but glad I was in shape to take them all:). I was majorly confuse throughout it.
He definitely heats up the winter landscape! Great to see Kim Bum again and surprised he can really act;)! H. Suddenly we all are just expected to get over Wang's obsession with Young? What happened to the guard who heard the alarm go off when Young's dad was dying? So yes, I love the ending! The last drama that I saw Kim Bum was Boys over flowers. This video lead me to change my mind. That Winter, The Wind Blows actually shows character development and healing for a rather complex character, something that Song Hye-kyo didn't witness in DOTS or Encounter. I felt that there was so much more to tell than they were able.
I thought I'm gonna fall in love with Oh Soo right at that moment:). And we believed he did. After a few episodes worth of such contrived drama already, it felt too forced. But do you want proof? Jung Eun Ji as Moon Hee Sun. I can say that he really improve alot. He really acted very well especially in those cry scenes and it make me wanted to cry along with him. "But you, Young, became the last reason for me to live like a human being. She played a blind woman who needed to be both strong and vulnerable. Kim Bum's been a talented and always solid actor.
Episode aired Feb 14, 2013. TYPE OF REVIEW: HINDSIGHT REVIEW. Together, they rescue refugees, battle bomb blasts, operate on Prime Ministers and survive earthquakes, and somehow manage to have an enthralling romance. Song Hye-kyo sunk into the role of being a broken, blind and suicidal woman, who is struggling to shut down from the world outside. G. Young's brain tumour was inoperable but they operated anyway. I was not sold on the chemistry however because I already know they didn't end up together in real life. I'm a firm believer that fans want real romance and a happy ever after from the leads more than the characters' chemistry onscreen.
Young's eyesight not completely back to normal. It's the #1 show in Korea for the past two months. Young's fiancé, Myung Ho, is suspicious of Oh Soo and runs a DNA test to prove that he is not Young's actual brother. Could I become the same to you? Shouldn't Wang be held accountable for ignoring the alarm and letting him die? We seldom see shows that have main actress as a blind lady. Was it just Young's imagination? I wish I can speak Korean. You remember during the times where Secretary Wang was calling the orphanages searching for the real identity of Soo. But as viewers, we need to root for him to get the girl he truly loves too. My heart goes out to him when Oh Young realized that he had been cheating her all the while but he seriously love her. Overcome by his need for money, he tries schooling her, insisting that she behave. The show was a bittersweet slow burn of a romance, but Song Hye-kyo once again, was fading to the sidelines despite being the main lead.
Tragedy and sadness. It was an emotionally draining melodrama, but well worth it. Maybe Oh Soo has adopted gardening as a hobby after all the gardening he did in Young's greenhouse. ) Song Hye Kyo commanded the series. But I am now a fan and even more looking forward to seeing Answer Me 1997. For the non-spoilery First Impression Review, click here. But hopefully, this Review will be just as satisfying as the show's ending, in spite of its perplexing nature.
Jo In Sung had a similarly difficult task. Watch and you'll know what I mean! She eventually finds out who he is and was surprisely antonishment but not shock or terrify. Sorry my day job got the better of me and I didn't recap last night! The character was so underdeveloped and became unimportant. Though they lost their sight but their strong hearing sense enable them to see through people's hearts which is not something that normal people like us can do. You're able to feel her joy as well as feel her pain.
Summary: Oh Soo, a notorious gambler is in big trouble and in order to save himself from the gangster boss and raise money to pay his debt, he's posing as the long lost brother of a blind heiress whose name was also Oh Soo. This is what makes me believe that she is his mother. I did find this character inconsistent throughout the drama, undecided whether she will stand up for herself, feel sorry for herself, or just not give a f*. She was able to take Young and not make her merely pitiful or a walking PSA. He now really cares for her and not just the money. For that matter, which side was Moo Chul on?
The last one I watched was good, but the ending sucked too. I hear the violin strains in 'Blind Love', I picture Soo's face when Young refuses to let him sleep with her any longer and he begs to be next to her, or Soo running to Young after realizing that she planned on dying that night, and I get the feels all over again. Such beautiful OST that set the stage for the breathtaking cinematography. Contribute to this page. So this is what the fuss is all about. It felt like they fell a couple of minutes short of a full hour's worth of material so they threw in that completely contrived final "twist. " And several times during those final two episodes, it really did seem like everyone was either going to get killed (stabbed, most likely) or kill themselves.
And that took a lot of skill. In Sung, you can trick me into falling in love with you anytime. It's ironic that Song Hye-kyo, one of the faces of the Hallyu wave, doesn't truly get the credit she deserves in most of her shows. It is an interesting feeling going back and realizing the characters you thought were villains were much more than that. I would give a higher rating if the ending can be a little more perfect and if the story plot is not too draggy. I'm glad this drama granted me my wish! Her vision improved after surgery and chemo, although they didn't explicitly say that the tumour and her eyesight were correlated.
