I am just looking for a book about police brutality that has a POV of the police officer who shot someone because I want to know if it is hate, confusion, racism or if he was afraid, because God knows I don't know what is going through their minds. Gang violence erupts in a party both twins attend and Tyler ends up dead from an unprovoked altercation with a police officer. There just seemed to be no thought to these characters except to be there to listen to Marvin. Being a woman of color, I also appreciated the microscopic and macroscopic attention this novel gave to its racial conflicts from the eyes of its protagonist. This book will give you the feels, you will laugh, cry, and get mad. The ending of this book is beautiful, and I loved that they got to the point where they could let go enough to release Tyler's ashes.
