In My Dreams I Hold a Knife is required reading for fans of Donna Tartt's The Secret History and Amy Gentry's Bad Habits. Set against the backdrop of an elite southern university, this engrossing suspense novel takes readers into the dark secrets of a picture-perfect friend group, exploring the complex dynamics that exist between individuals who have spent their formative years together. And us readers on the outside get to see just how destructive false pretences can really be. Also, almost none of the characters are likeable, so I found it hard to really get invested in caring about them. Ashley shows through her magical storytelling that things aren't always what they seem. "A twisty, dark of books such as The Girl on the Train and Gone Girl will find this book captivating, as will anyone who enjoys being led down a winding, frightening path. Not everyone will redeem themselves, not everyone will reveal their secrets. Now he works in the Alumni Office, and he's helped to plan Homecoming this year. The only element that I didn't love about this book was the number of characters because I could not keep track of them. Didn't like the dark side of one of the main characters just morally seemed wrong. It's definitely going to be in my 2022 top reads!

Even though she dated one of the most popular guys at school, she felt like a fake. Full of plot twists and surprise moments, the ending had me thoroughly chilled. Sourcebooks Landmark, $26. The timeline was nicely done, giving us just enough information from the past to help us figure out who the murderer was right along with the characters. All of the East House Seven have skeletons in their closet and they each come face to face with them ten years later at their college reunion.

Told mostly from the point-of-view of Jessica, but also alternating between the others in the past and the present, everything begins to spiral and long-covered secrets are revealed. This novel featured plenty of dramatics, secret reveals, and high jinks. But what she doesn't expect is Eric. This is an addictive thriller about a cold crime that comes back to haunt 6 friends back for a College reunion. She did amazing job!

I loved the writing style with the jumping back and forth in time, and I love that it's mostly told in Jessica's POV but we also get singular chapters from some of the other characters. Deeply drawn characters and masterful storytelling come together to create an addictive and riveting psychological thriller. But amidst all this, she also felt relatable with her dysfunctional middle-class family, her rich popular friends, self-doubt, being the poor friend, lack of confidence, and the yearning to be the centre of attention. Also if you loved, Verity by Colleen Hoover then you will enjoy this one. The story moves very slowly, but does contain lots of twists and turns.
