It was definitely odd to me because i'm not used to magical realism but it was kind of fun to see a 'that's so raven' moment in a women's fiction novel. In the end, everything is resolved out nicely with everyone getting the one they wanted and god why is marriage so strongly associated with the epitome of happiness? I did wonder if maybe I'd like it more if I read it in my own voice, without the upward questioning lilt at the end of most of the sentences, but I doubt it, because the writing was so awful.
